No Florida golf vacation is complete without a trip to the World Golf Hall of Fame. A must-see for every golf fan, visitors can learn golf history play 18-holes and more.
Followers of the game of golf know the names; Sam Snead, Arnold Palmer, Babe Zaharias, Jack Nicklaus, Nancy Lopez, and Annika Sorenstam are some of golf’s greatest players. But there are other names too like Dinah Shore, Bob Hope, and President Dwight D. Eisenhower, who never won a major, but who gave so much to the game they loved. These are the people who are immortalized in the World Golf Hall of Fame. Located between Jacksonville and St. Augustine, just off Interstate 95 in the World Golf Village, the World Golf Hall of Fame is a must-see for every golf fan. Featuring golf history and equipment, interactive golf exhibits, and PGA Tour professionals and others who have supported golf with time and money, the Hall of Fame is more than a museum. It is a total golf experience and a great addition to a Florida golf vacation. Opened in 1998 as a place to honor golf’s greatest players and contributors, the World Golf Hall of Fame tells the stories of its more than 100 members and the history of the game through historic artifacts, photographs, and personal memorabilia. Interactive exhibits let visitors get into the game and play with some of the original equipment, test their skills on a virtual course and play an 18-hole putting course. Visitors to the Golf Hall of Fame can explore the museum on their own or with a guided tour conducted by one of the more than 200 volunteers who contribute their time at the Hall. Exhibits inside include an 1880’s putting course, a golf simulator, Inductee exhibits and the110-foot high Trophy Tower. Golf Courses at the World Golf Hall of Fame Outside of the Hall, golfers can test their skills on an 18-hole putting course or tee it up on The Challenge Hole, an island green that resembles the famed 17th hole at the Tournament Players Club at Sawgrass. There are also two golf courses available for play, the King & Bear, an Arnold Palmer-Jack Nicklaus collaboration, and the Slammer & Squire, named for Sam Snead and Gene Sarazen. The World Golf Hall of Fame is open Monday through Saturday from 10 AM. to 6 PM and Sunday, Noon to 6 PM year-round except Thanksgiving, Christmas and Induction. Tickets are $19.50 for adults, $17.50 for seniors and $9 for children ages 5 to 12. The putting course and challenge hole are included in the price of admission.
