Tampa's Honey's is a Taste of Buffalo, New YorkRestaurant Serves Authentic Chicken Wings, Beef on Weck in Florida
Buffalonians and Western New York transplants who now call Florida home can savor the taste of Buffalo chicken wings and beef on weck at Honey's in Tampa.
Mention beef on weck to someone from Western New York and watch their mouths drool. This roast beef sandwich served atop a kummelweck roll – which is a Kaiser roll topped with kosher salt and caraway seeds – with a dollop of ground horseradish originated in the Buffalo, N.Y., area and is rarely available outside of Western New York. Buffalonians who have migrated to Tampa Bay, Florida, as well as those looking to satisfy their curiosity can enjoy beef on weck along with a host of other Buffalo associated meals at Honey’s Family Sports Bar Carrollwood. Honey’s Family Sports Bar: Beef on Weck and Chicken WingsBeef on weck is one of many Buffalo entrees served. Often imitated by other restaurants, Buffalo chicken wings in mild, medium and hot flavors at Honey’s are just like those found at Western New York favorites the Anchor Bar and Duff’s. And, they are served the way Buffalo wings should be, with a side of bleu cheese and celery and carrot sticks. Unlike Western New York, wings are available in quantities of 8 and 16 rather than by the dozen. Honey’s serves up other chicken wing flavors such as BBQ raspberry, honey garlic and charbroiled. Honey's Family Sports Bar: Pizza, Fish Fry and MustardJust as Chicago and New York City have their pizza styles so does Buffalo. Honey’s dishes out authentic Buffalo pizzas with thick crusts, gooey cheese and the small, thick pepperoni rounds with a spicy bite. In true Western New York tradition, Honey’s serves a Friday fish fry with beer battered haddock, fresh cut french fries and a wedge of pizza. A popular Buffalo condiment served by Honey’s is Weber's Brand Horseradish Mustard. Honey's Family Sports Bar: Garbage PlateHoney’s serves their version of the “Garbage Plate” which originated in Rochester, N.Y., at Nick Tahou Hots. As the name implies, the Garbage Plate is a lot of stuff. It’s on the appetizer menu and consists of french fries topped with chili, cheddar and jack cheeses, green onions, hot peppers, medium sauce, nacho chips and sour cream. A Nick Tahou’s Garbage Plate varies and an example of one is a combination of macaroni salad, hamburger, chopped onions, spicy mustard, Nick Tahou’s hot sauce and slices of Italian bread. Honey's Family Sports Bar: Love that Buffalo FoodTraditional pub fare is also available including a variety of sandwiches, salads, seafood entrees, wraps and a variety of desserts. Entree prices range between $6.99 for a beef on weck to $9.99 for a small cheese and pepperoni pizza. A small order of Buffalo chicken wings is $6.99. A full bar is available. Honey’s Family Sports Bar: Hometown, Western New York FeelAs the name implies, Honey’s is a sports bar and those from Buffalo love their athletic teams. Look for posters and memorabilia from the Buffalo Bills football team and Buffalo Sabers hockey team.
