Kissimmee as a vacation Mecca may be Orlando's kitschy cousin, but that's part of its particular brand of fun. Among the town's not-to-be missed low-cost destinations is Old Town, a microcosm of tourist Americana with free parking and admission.

The budget and family friendly attraction provides pretty much every type of shopping, food, drink and activity to be seen at any state fair, vacation thoroughfare, flea market or tourist bar. There truely is something fascinating to do for everyone.

Things to Do at Old Town

Visitors can ride a mechanical bull, play laser tag, have a sepia portrait taken in old-fashioned clothes, get a tattoo, have their hair braided, visit a wax museum, look under the hood of a classic car or take the wheel of a bumper car or go kart.

The very daring may want to try the Old Town Slingshot, which catapults riders 365 feet in the air, or the Windstorm Roller Coaster with its 80-degree banks. For those seeking tamer pleasures there's a ferris wheel and merry-go-round.

All About Rides at Old Town

Reasonably priced rides open at noon and often run for extended hours during the weekends. All-you-can ride wristbands or single tickets may be purchased. For the best value on rides, purchase a wristband on Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. The all-you-can ride Mega Saver on 14 rides plus go-carts, laser tag and bumper cars is $25. And the Super Saver all-you-can ride on the rides and bumper cars is $15.

Entertainment at Old Town

Free performances are held on the main stage each night, and every Wednesday at 7 p.m. there's a free Elvis show with Dwight Icenhower.

The small-town style layout of Old Town's shopping and dining areas allows for great people watching opportunities. Many gather on the town benches to watch others get caricatures or try their hand at ringing the bell of the "world's largest striker."

Shopping at Old Town

Those wanting to shop may purchase magic tricks, knives, leather goods, surf accessories, cigars, pearls, gold jewelry, candles, cards and clothes. After visitors have shopped and need to drop, there's a day spa.

Adults are likely to find Old Town a nostalgic reminder of visiting tourist towns as a child. Children will been entranced by the wonderfully gaudy lights and multitude of sights and sounds.
