Although Destin doesn't have an abundance of natural reefs, snorkelers can investigate sea life in the crystal clear waters along the white sand beaches or snorkel the jetties where even more aquatic species can be found. Pick up a snorkel set at one of the beach stores or book a snorkeling trip with one of the local dive shops.
Take in a show at the Gulfarium and watch trained dolphins or book a tour on one of the dolphin cruises in the Destin harbor and see them in their natural setting as they race alongside the boats. Dolphins are regulars in local waters and may be seen while out kayaking, snorkeling, or even jet skiing.
Water park fans will enjoy over 40 water attractions at Big Kahuna's, located in the heart of Destin. A bit farther down the road is yet another family fun destination known as The Track where thrill seekers can ride go-carts, play mini golf, ride bumper cars and other thrill rides.
Destin Cuisine and Accomodations
Having earned the reputation as the World's Luckiest Fishing Village, Destin has no shortage of great seafood restaurants. Favorites include the Old Bay Steamer on Okaloosa Island, Seagar's, The Crab Trap, The Lucky Snapper, and the Back Porch just to name a few. Other top non-seafood choices includes Chops, McGuire's Irish Pub, Lighthouse Restaurant, and Callahan's Restaurant and Deli. Finding the best ones to eat at is as simple as asking one of the locals.
Finding a place to stay in Destin may be the easiest task of all. There are numerous condo rentals available at affordable prices, and almost all of them are located on Destin's beautiful beaches allowing vacationers some of the best sunsets and sunrises that anyone could ask for. It's also the perfect place for beach weddings, honeymoons, and anniversaries.
Vacation season lasts pretty much year round in Destin. Once the summer tourists have headed back to their regular routines, winter snowbirds descend in order to take advantage of the mild winters. Summer or winter, Destin and the surrounding area is a great place to experience.
