Choosing the Right Disney World Resort
Among the many Disney resorts, the value and moderate resorts offer comfortable amenities and all the perks of staying on Disney property, at affordable rates.
When it comes to planning a Walt Disney World vacation, the range of choices can appear overwhelming at first. With dozens of resort hotels, each with its own theme, deciding where to stay is no easy task, but an understanding of the Disney resort categories can make narrowing the choices much simpler.
Disney resort hotels are grouped into four levels. Each level offers different amenities and comes at a different cost. The value and moderate resorts offer all the benefits of staying on Disney properties at family friendly rates.
Value Resorts
Value resorts offer the most affordable accommodations of all the Walt Disney World hotels. With rates ranging from $82 to $141 per night, depending on room category and season, these resorts offer the perks of staying at a Disney resort at a modest price tag.
There are four value resorts: All Star Music, All Star Sports, All Star Movies, and Pop Century. All are decorated in eye-catching colors, and the grounds of each resort are dotted with larger-than-life statues that reflect the theme of the hotel. The pools at each resort are also designed in keeping with the theme.
Amenities at value resorts are simple, but well suited to family travel. Rooms are decorated in bright colors, with linens and posters in keeping with the resort theme. Each room is 260 square feet, and holds either two double or one king size bed. Each resort has two themed pools, but no pool slides or hot tubs. There is a food court located in the main building of each hotel, but none of the values offer a sit down restaurant.
Maximum room occupancy at the value resorts is four, with only one exception. Newly added family suites at the All Star Music resort offer an option for larger families, with roughly twice the space as a single value room and at about twice the cost. These suites sleep six and offer some additional amenities as well, including a second bathroom and a kitchenette with refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave.
Moderate Resorts
Moderate resorts offer more amenities than the value resorts, at a slightly higher cost. Standard rooms range from $145 to $225 per night, depending on the room type, location, and season.
There are four moderate resorts on Disney property: Coronado Springs, Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans Riverside and Port Orleans French Quarter. Each has its own unique theme, and everything from the building architecture to the landscaping reflects this theme. Pools and other recreational offerings are also designed to fit in with the resort’s ambience.
Moderate resorts offer improved dining and recreational options, along with larger rooms than the value resorts. With the exception of Port Orleans French Quarter, which shares facilities with Port Orleans Riverside, each of the moderate resorts has a unique sit down restaurant that offers cuisine in keeping with the resort theme. Pools at the moderate resorts feature themed slides, hot tubs, and poolside bars. Other recreation options, such as bicycle and boat rentals and fishing, are also available.
Rooms at the moderate resorts range from 314 to 340 square feet, and have either one king or two double beds. The décor of each resort is unique and in keeping with the overall ambiance of the property. A split bathroom design makes getting ready in the morning simpler, and with the exception of Coronado Springs, moderate resorts have dual sinks in the dressing area of the bathroom. Refrigerators and coffee makers are provided in all rooms.
Maximum occupancy in most moderate rooms is four. Port Orleans Riverside offers some rooms that feature an extra trundle bed and can sleep up to five at the same cost as a standard room. Coronado Springs offers a limited number of suites which can accommodate up to six, but these suites cost between two and six times the standard room rate, depending on the suite.
