Allegiant Air Will Fly to Charlotte County Airport in 2009

Less than two weeks following the inaugural flight into Charlotte County Airport by Direct Air, discount carrier Allegiant Air announced service will begin in March 2009.

Travelers will be able to fly nonstop from the Charlotte County Airport, located in Punta Gorda, Florida, to Knoxville, Tenn., and Greenville/Spartanburg, S.C., beginning March 5. Flights to and from Greenville/Spartanburg are offered Thursdays and Sundays with the following schedule:

Punta Gorda, Florida, Things to Do in March 2009

The city of Punta Gorda is located in an area collectively called “Charlotte Harbor and the Gulf Islands,” which has received accolades such as one of the “Top Five Places to Live and Play Golf” by Golf Digest and one of “America’s Best Healthy Places to Retire” by U.S. News & World Report. Scheduled to open in February 2009, Muscle Car City Museum is Punta Gorda’s newest attraction with a private collection of more than 200 high performance vehicles, primarily Chevy’s and General Motors cars. Baseball spring training for the Tampa Bay Rays, the 2008 American League Champions, begins the end of February and will be played through April 1, 2009 at the Charlotte Sports Park in Port Charlotte. Allegiant Air: Discount Airline to Florida

The discount airline will utilize 150-seat, MD-80 series jets with coach seating only. Airfare is a bargain beginning at $79 one-way to Greenville/Spartanburg and $89 one-way to Knoxville, plus taxes and fees.

Based in Las Vegas, Allegiant Air also services Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Orlando/Sanford, Fla., and Tampa/St. Petersburg, Fla. Punta Gorda is located on Florida’s Southwest Gulf coast and less than an hour north of Fort Myers and an hour’s drive south of Sarasota.
